someone recently asked me if i ever felt hot wearing black all the time, especially now during summer. honey, i live in the desert. its always hot. no matter what i wear. believe me. anyways, my closet is very basic. all you will ever see is black, white, grey and beige. any additional color or print are down to a minimum coz i find it easier to work with basics. and so, it should not be a surprise if you mostly see me in black. and because dubai has one very distinct season (hot, hot summer and more hot, hot summer), i had to learn to make my color choices work with my lifestyle out here in the sandpit. and lets be honest…black is the easiest one to wear. we all look good in it. everything works with it. and well, you can go from day to night with it. so it is an obvious choice no matter the weather. and so the question is…how to wear black in summer? without dying of heat?
first, i am very particular with the fabric. it has to be comfortable, light and loose. this makes it easier for my body to actually breathe. i choose dresses or skirts for summer coz they work better for the season. i mix it up by adding a pop of color to brighten my look up and wear easy footwear like sneakers or sandals.
i stumbled upon this old photograph of mine and thought it would be perfect to share as an example. captured in the middle of summer – july to be exact. in the middle of the desert. ok, not exactly. but you know what i mean. and as you can see…little mahryska is comfortable and refreshed in black. so dont be afraid to wear black during summer. it is all about your attitude and the kind of pieces you put together.
