one of the things i have learned to appreciate by living out here in the sandpit, is the beauty of wearing the abaya. the typical abaya is the long black robe-like ensemble that muslim women wear. it has in time though, have taken a huge part of the wardrobes of women who live here, even if they are not muslim. most especially during ramadan, when we need the extra cover-up. the abaya has now evolved in its design and style. it is no longer just black. it now comes in a variety of shades, some with touches of colour and added texture. the fabrics now have a wider range and the cuts and details have been more intricate in recent years. not only does it make a huge statement, but it also adds a touch of elegance in an ordinary outfit.

wearing an abaya is actually very simple. you simply just throw it on before leaving the house. i usually wear mine over a pair of jeans and tank top. sometimes, i wear it with a dress inside. more casual abayas are perfect with sneakers too but i usually love wearing them with heels because it is rather longer on the hemlines. plus i like to tie up my hair in a bun to elongate my neck a bit. some may say it can be hot, most especially during summer, but picking the right fabric makes a difference so choose a more light-weight abaya for summer. if the abaya is packed with texture and embroidery or print, make sure you dont accessorise too much coz you may look a bit too heavy and bulky. always keep it simple and refined.

i have been a lover of abayas and have a few in my closet. although i must say, none comes close to this little beauty. as soon as i saw it, i knew i had to try it on. the beautiful lace and feminine embroidery would not always be my first choice, but how can you not take a second look and fall inlove?!

this is a limited edition piece from ALICE + OLIVIA and is exclusive to the middle east. make sure you head over the store to check it out coz me thinks this is the perfect addition to your wardrobeย this eid.
