i have lived in dubai ever since the early 80s and seen how this beautiful city grew into what it is right now. one of the places i absolutely love is downtown old dubai where the creek runs and abra rides go for 2dhs to cross the bridge (it used be 50fils back then). no one should leave this city without the experience of the traditional abra ride. and so one fine afternoon, i went out to ride one, once again (mind you, i am actually shit scared for about half the ride coz i dont exactly know how to swim so i literally embrace every corner of the abra the entire time).
the abra ride to me, no matter how half scared i am, actually relaxes me. i love the cool breeze on a late afternoon. the beautiful sunlight that shimmers and shines on the water. and the glorious culture and heritage mixed with the growing modern city that you see as the abra smoothly crosses the creek.
they say that the ride is sweeter if you are with someone…
but take this single moment to realize and appreciate how blessed you are. and on my own, i am waiting still. because the willingness to wait reveals the value we place on what we are waiting for.
